San Marino is a very small independent country within Italy. It's main attration are it's 3 hilltop castles. This was taken at sunrise.
You can see how high the castles are compared to the surrounding country side.
The one castle is now a medival weapons museum.
The main business of San Marino is tourism. You can purchase many relics of medival weapons in particular Cross Bows.
This picture shows the entire medival town of Assisi with the Basilica and the Castle on the top of the hill.
This is the Basilica built to honor St Francis. It has many frescoes inside the theunique construction which has an upper and lower church.

Urbino is a picturesque medevial town on the road from San Marino to Assisi.
The ducal palace is the main attraction in Urbino.
The highlight of Spoleto is the castle and the aqueduct just below it.
The aqueduct has a bridge built into the structure.
Unfortunately they were renovating the 12th century bell tower.
Thsi amphitheater dates from the 1st century and is the site of a festival plays each year.
You come down narrow medival streets and the first view of the duomo is this.
When you get into the piazza you can see just how huge and spectacular this Duomo is in such a small town.
The facade of the Duomo is spectaclar with intricately carved detail. The doors are also exquisite.

Under Orvieto town is a series of underground tunels that in the past were used for various functions. This is a wine press.

At the end of the corridor you can see the pigeon house. The people would build roosts for pigeons to nest than harvest them for food.
